History
Scholars Home Public School was established in March 1996 with the sole purpose of imparting quality English medium education at the Kindergarten level mostly by use of ‘Play-Way’ technique. The school is located in Sati Joymati Nagar, Gotanagar (near BG Railway Colony) Maligaon. The founder and principal of the school - Mrs. Florence Handique Rabha – completed her MA in English Literature from Punjab University followed by a B.Ed. degree from Annamalai University. She realized the need for a preparatory school in the area as at that time, there were only two senior schools (with classes from I to XII) nearby and neither of them had any classes for tiny tots.
Objective
Scholars Home is a home away from home for tiny tots. Needless to say that all classes are paid great importance since such young children (of age group 2⅟2 to 5⅟2 years) coming to this pre-primary school are physically and emotionally very tender and innocent. We understand and appreciate their needs and interact with them with the utmost care and personal attention. Keeping this in focus the school has always maintained an optimum student-teacher ratio. For every 15 to 20 students the school has one well-trained and qualified teacher who can devote her care and time with total dedication to the young scholars. Today the school has one hundred students and five well-trained teachers with an assistant teacher, two ‘ayahs’ and a peon.
Curriculum
Admissions to the three classes, i.e., Preparatory, Nursery & KG are open throughout the year. ‘Play School’ (a foundation stage of Class Preparatory) for fresh students begins every year in January (after Magh Bihu/Sankranti) for which the minimum age of a child should be 2⅟2 years. Admission forms and other details are available in the school office from 9 AM to 1 PM (from Monday to Friday). School is closed on Saturday and Sunday. Summer vacation is given every year in the month of July. By the time the child completes his third year in the school (i.e., Class KG) we ensure that the child is fully prepared to gain admission in any other senior school in and around Guwahati or any other part of India.
The academic session begins in April and final (promotional) examinations are held in the month of March every year.
Along with the daily schedule of play-way technique of teaching and learning process, additional co-curricular activities are also arranged in the school for the all-round development of the child which includes – recitation of rhymes and poems, drawing, singing, dancing, fancy dress, games, etc.
The SHPS Annual Day is celebrated on the 14th of November every year wherein all the students and teachers participate enthusiastically. A month-long rehearsal is organized for celebrating this major event. The rehearsals have always been a great time of enjoyment, learning and participation for the students and bring them closer to one another. Better mutual understanding and a healthy relationship is developed between the teachers and the students in these ‘out of classroom’ interactive sessions. Parents and guardians are also invited to be a part of this grand celebration every year.
‘Parent-Teacher’ meetings are also held from time to time to provide counseling and to share information and feed-back regarding issues related to the development of the child.
